This historic early 20th century glass tray celebrates Teddy Roosevelt's life through the first few years of his presidency. Incredibly detailed, this US Glass company tray is an excellent example of early American pressed glass. This 10 1/2" by 7 3/4" bread tray is crammed full of iconography, including 12 dancing, musical, hunting and sporting bears, four medallions including an American Eagle, hunting, Rough Riders and "A Square Deal", his signature domestic program of three major goals - natural resource conservation, controlling corporations and consumer protection. The medallion also bears crossed clubs of "Speak softly and carry a big stick." fame. The TR profile portrait is deeply embossed and frosted on the reverse, on an oval of faint star bursts surrounded by bound twigs. The outer rim framing the bears and medallions is also of bound twigs symbolizing TR's commitment to natural resources. This plate is in excellent vintage condition.
